From Finding Awe to Finding Awww
In times of chaos and disruption, I find it helps to ground myself in the cozy, comfy, and contented
My post last week centered around the idea of finding the things and places in the world that bring a sense of awe to you. Today, I’ll delve into what makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside and out.
When the outer world around me seems complex, chaotic, and confounding, I feel compelled to control the things that are within my power. And inevitably, I want to relish in the reveries of simple pleasures.
And this is the perfect season for me to get into these simple pleasures. I’m very much a fan of the Danish practice of hygge (pronounced hoo-gah), where being cozy is front and center of daily living.
For me, achieving a cozy environment is pretty easy. On Tuesday night, I got some freshly washed sheets out of the dryer, made my bed, and crawled in. A giant smile crossed my face as I drew the sheets and covers up to my chin. There are very few simple pleasures that make me feel as happy as climbing into a freshly made bed with clean sheets.
When I’m sitting in my living room, I like to pull a fleece blanket all around me, tucking my fuzzy-socked feet under the bottom of it, and settling into a good book or holiday movie. And if my pup is leaning against me, that is perfection in terms of comfort.
If I want to add an element of contentment, I will make a cup of hot tea or cocoa while I lose myself in a story. Wrapping my hands around a hot mug of a delicious drink warms not only my hands, but also my insides.
How about you, neighbors? Do you crave cozy, comfort, and/or contentment in times of chaos? If so, what does yours look like? What simple pleasures are your go tos? Don’t be shy, there could be someone out there who is craving your kind of calm. So share away.
May you find and relish in your own awww this week, neighbors. If only for a short time, it just might help us to feel grounded and somewhat normal, regardless of the world outside.
Happy hygge ~
